Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings
Nylon tape wound bass strings are generally the smoothest, darkest, "thumpiest" strings out there, with a layer of nylon wrapped around the core. In most cases, the nylon is wrapped around a string that is already flatwound (smooth and dark,) and is a preferred string for players looking to emulate an old school upright bass sound. This is not to say it does not sound great in a variety of other contexts as well.
Fender makes a string that is nylon over roundwound, creating a smooth string that is brighter with a unique character.

Tru Bass 88 are flatwounds made with black nylon and a hex core. There is a good chance you have heard them on: Abbey Road from The Beatles, Transformer (Lou Reed), or a Town Called Malice (The Jam)
